Living in Golf Island Maplewood NJ’s Most Sought-After Enclave

Allison Ziefert Homes March 5, 2025

Maplewood’s Golf Island neighborhood is idyllic– made up of just a few tree-lined streets with little traffic and no “through streets.” The neighborhood is surrounded by the Maplewood Country Club’s golf course, where it gets its unique name. Many of the homes in this area have lovely views of the manicured golf course. Highly coveted for its proximity to Maplewood Village, Maplewood Middle School, the train station, schools, park, and library, Golf Island is very convenient and appealing for people seeking a pedestrian-oriented lifestyle.

The boundaries of the Golf Island neighborhood are Baker Street to the North, the Erie Lackawanna train tracks to the West, and the Maplewood Country Club to the East and South. It is also conveniently located to Millburn, Springfield, and Union, neighboring towns that are just a short drive away.

Much of the neighborhood is home to longtime residents and young families, including many former city dwellers.

The homes in the neighborhood are mostly a mix of traditional Colonials and Victorians that range in price from $1-$2 million. Our listing at 60 S. Mountain Ave. is a great example of a Golf Island neighborhood home.

Some of the benefits to living in the Golf Island neighborhood are:

  • The streets are quiet and flat, which is great for walking, bike riding, and skateboarding
  • There are no “through streets”
  • Homes with golf course views
  • It is within easy walking distance of the bustling downtown shops and restaurants
  • Proximity to Memorial Park- 25 acres of rolling hills, footpaths, streams, bridges, ball fields, and playgrounds, is just a short distance away
  • Walkable to Tuscan Elementary School and the Maplewood Middle School
  • The neighborhood is within easy walking distance of the Midtown Direct train line
  • There is easy access to neighboring towns like Millburn, Union, and South Orange

In sum, location and lifestyle make Golf Island one of the town’s most popular places to live.
