Award-winning school district

Livingston is a popular suburb of New York City. It is located in Essex County and is named after William Livingston, the first Governor of New Jersey. It has a current residential population of just under 30,000. The township covers an area of 14.081 square miles. It is located in the Gateway Region near the Passaic River, West Orange and Millburn, and it is considered part of the New York Metropolitan Area.

Livingston has a wide range of home prices and amenities such as a new library and municipal building. Most of its housing stock was built in the 1950’s through 1980’s so it tends to have more contemporary homes than other area towns. There are some nice condo options in town as well. Most of the town’s shopping can be found along Livingston Ave. which has many small boutiques, offices, service businesses and restaurants. Livingston also has a large shopping mall and is home to St. Barnabas Medical Center. The schools are highly regarded and, thus, the town appeals to many families with children seeking a quality educational system and relatively affordable homes.
