Madison, NJ is a small suburban community found in Morris County. Back in the 19th century, it acquired the nickname The Rose City because of its famous rose growing industry, and it is still known by that name today. The town is approximately 25 miles west of New York City. The boroughs of Florham Park and Chatham are to the north and east, and Chatham Township, Harding Township and Morris Township are to the south and west. Morristown and Summit are also nearby. Manhattan is readily accessible from Madison via bus or train. The town, with a population of approximately 16,000 and covering 4.2 square miles, is known for its good schools and low crime rate. The downtown is bustling, with small old-time shops, restaurants and car dealerships as well as the popular Starbucks. It has become known for the number and quality of its restaurants. The town is also home to Drew University with Fairleigh Dickenson University and The College of Saint Elizabeth next door.
